Tourism in Segala, deep in the countryside, between the Aveyron gorges and the Viaur valley

Visitez Tayrac, Tayrac

Visitez Tayrac, Tayrac

Lying midway between Rodez and Albi, Tayrac maintained its familial agricultural activity and attracts new inhabitants attentive to their quality of life.

This charming village was once a 13th century bastide, surrounded by walls and ditches, at the time a dependency of the lordship of Castelmary, which itself was under the authority of the bishop of Rodez.

With the passage of time, agricultural activity moved up out of the valleys towards the plateaux and while the population of Castelmary slowly declined, that of Tayrac became more and more significant. The people were principally farmers, but there were numerous other trades in the village: blacksmith, weaver, clogmaker, wheelwright, tinsmith, joiner, tailor, dressmaker………..

Even if situated some way from the main highways, Tayrac has an ideal situation. At 400-500 metres altitude, it lies midway between Rodez and Albi, at the frontier between the Aveyron and the Tarn, between the Massif Central and the plains of Toulouse.

Today Tayrac has rediscovered its positive dynamism, maintaining its lively agricultural tradition while attracting new inhabitants, searching for a real quality of life.

Tayrac stands out by its Apicité quality certification. This label rewards every village for their activities mindful of sustainable development, green spaces management, biodiversity, awareness and apiculture.
